ITA was established in 1997 as a U.S. based, independent, and non-profit business and networking organization. Since then the ITA has provided Iranian trade information, conference organization, and worked to support a constructive and mutually beneficial US economic engagement policy with Iran and improve the condition of the private business sector in Iran.

The ITA does not have any government, religious, or political affiliations. All US trade with Iran is still subject to a license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in Washington, DC.
